What can I say about Vegas? There is so much to see, so much to do. After two visits in 1995 and 2009, it is interesting to note the evolution of this great gambling Mecca.
On my first visit, it seemed that gambling and partying were virtually the only things to do in Las Vegas. It also seemed like the hotels had not been renovated since their construction in the 60s or 70s. Today, many things have changed at the architectural level, giving the city a new look. I’m talking, of course, about the breathtaking new and very large hotels!
Some new hotels were added, while others completely replaced their predecessors. For example, before the Venetian, there once stood the famous Sands Hotel. Buildings were demolished to rebuild magnificent luxury hotels and resorts, and Las Vegas Boulevard has continued to expand and grow.
Clearly, on the Strip. there is no architectural consistency from one hotel to the next. Everything is flashy and it works, because, in essence, people go to Las Vegas for the flash. If I put aside my professional tendencies and admire for the sake of admiring, I am easily swept away by the majestic scenery.
The basic design of the hotels of yesterday and today is not the same because the thinking is not the same. Before, it was all about the gambling, and now Vegas has a larger customer base and something for everyone. That’s why the old hotels, such asTreasure Islandand MGM, were mostly designed with one main entrance directly into the casino. To get to the reception area, customers have to walk through the entire casino. Today’s new hotels are much bigger, so they have more than one main entrance: one for the reception area, one for the casino, one for the small mall found inside most hotels, etc. So, the focus is no longer primarily on gambling, even though there are still no clocks in any of the hotels!
The general opinion about Las Vegas is divided—you either love it or you hate it! One thing is certain, the city has evolved with society and now attracts families as well as singles of all ages!
